
A man was walking down the street of his subdivision. As he passed a particular home, he noticed a little boy struggling to reach the doorbell. The walked up the steps and told the little boy, "Here let me help you." as he pushed the doorbell for him.
The little boy looked up at him and smiled, "Thanks. Now let's run!"
The man misunderstood the context of his good deed.
The purpose of this micro-seminar is to give context to the experience of teaching Hispanic children and interacting with their parents within the school system.
Understanding the context will:
give you confidence when you interact with the Hispanic community;
help you achieve the learning outcomes you want for your Hispanic students; and
better lead parents to involvement with you school.

Think of yourself as a potter.
All your pedagogical training and skills are your potter's wheel.
Your students are the clay.
Context refers to the characteristics of the clay.
Do all clays have the same properties?
This micro-training will help you understand some of the characteristics of the Hispanic experience of your students and their parents. Understanding the context enable you to refine the techniques you use achieve your learning outcomes for your Hispanic students.
